Today is the first day of the free agency period.
With the arrival of free agency comes the opportunity for each club across Nippon Professional Baseball League to propel themselves into the playoffs simply by making a few shrewd, well-calculated signings. General managers have to choose wisely where to spend their dollars. An expensive signing could be the key to a playoff spot or it could handcuff a franchise for years to come.
This year's key free agents include:

Tyrone Hall, 27 year-old C
Chase De Jong, 28 year-old RH SP
Greg Bird, 30 year-old 1B
Kota Futaki, 27 year-old RH SP

NPB News: First-Year Player Draft

First-year players are drafted today in the Nippon Professional Baseball League while front offices buzz with anticipation and opinion from GM to receptionist. The initial picks go to Chiba Lotte, Chunichi, Saitama Seibu, Tokyo Yakult and Tohoku Rakuten and the favorites to be selected, according to the BNN reports, are ranked as follows:
1. Sozen Ito, 19 year-old RHP out of high-school.
2. Kazuma Yamasaki, 21 year-old CF out of college.
3. Tetsu Harada, 18 year-old RHP out of high-school.
4. Matsu Sakaguchi, 18 year-old RHP out of high-school.
5. Seiki Matsumoto, 21 year-old RHP out of college.
6. Shigenobu Shimazu, 22 year-old RHP out of college.
7. Katsunosuki Kato, 20 year-old 2B out of college.
