Tanaka and Fujioka Brawl, League Suspends Them Tuesday, September 17th, 2019 Yesterday at Sapporo Dome Hiroyasu Tanaka and Takahiro Fujioka got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters and Chiba Lotte Marines. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified both ballclubs that Tanaka and Fujioka would be given 7-game suspensions for fighting. This season Tanaka has banged out 65 hits in 263 at-bats for a .247 average with no home runs. He is getting on base at a .323 pace and his totals also include 16 RBIs and 23 runs scored. In 28 starts this year Fujioka has posted 12 wins while suffering 12 losses. He has pitched 208 innings, allowed 191 hits, struck out 190 and has a 3.59 ERA. |
