Fukuoka SoftBank Comes up Empty Against Hughes Tuesday, August 27th, 2019 "He was too darn good for us today," grumbled the Fukuoka SoftBank manager after his club suffered a 8-0 shutout at the hands of Phil Hughes of the Chiba Lotte Marines. He held the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks scoreless in a 6-hit whitewash. Hughes was in a zone of his own most of the game and finished with 10 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing. In a postgame quote his own skipper added, "He pitched his butt off, had good velocity, good movement and had those guys off balance. Phil did a whale of a pitching job." This season Hughes has compiled a 9-11 record with a 3.90 ERA. |
