Felix Hernandez Records Win #200
Friday, August 9th, 2019
His goal at twenty was to win twenty games one year, pitch until he was thirty, win the league pennant and to make some money. Well, Felix Hernandez did something even better -- the 33-year-old Pawtucket Red Sox star has now won 200 games in his career. That put him in a very select group of pitchers.
He joined that exclusive club today at McCoy Stadium by whipping the Batavia Muckdogs 1-0, holding them to 4 hits in 8 innings while chalking up 7 strikeouts and no walks.
In the postgame interview, the modest Hernandez said, "It's special to win 200 games. You don't do it by yourself. You do it with good stuff and a good bullpen. You are only as good as the guys behind you. Years from now I might look back on it and give myself a little pat on the back."
In his career Hernandez has compiled an ERA of 3.24 with 200 victories and 138 defeats and has held opponents to a .242 batting average. He also has struck out 2714 batters in 3191 innings and given up 2925 hits.
