Yordano Ventura never let the Royals get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Batterologists to a 3-1 win. Berkeley reliever Jose Cisnero was the winner. His record is now 3-1. Edgardo Hernández took the loss. Dan Reynolds, credited with the save, is now 9 for 9 in save opportunities.
Had Gleyber Torres not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Torres hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Batterologists.
"We'll savor this win," Ventura told the Berkeley Times, "then get ready for the next game."
Berkeley's record now stands at 53-67, placing them last in the Ellering League Hawk Division.
