The Columbus Legion and Atlantic City Illuminati provided some drama at Castel Sant'Angelo.
Columbus catcher Michael Hickman was sensational. He went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Atlantic City beat the Legion, 6-5. Hickman was named the player of the game despite the loss. The winner was Turner Larkins in relief. His record improves to 6-0. Riley Ferrell took the loss.
Had Victor Caratini not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Caratini hit a 2-run single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Illuminati.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Caratini told the Atlantic City News.
The Illuminati bumped their record to 64-53 with this latest triumph.
