Legion Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Fighting Penguins
|
The Columbus Legion picked up a win at The Igloo, knocking off the Neptune Fighting Penguins, 3-2. Starting pitcher Pierce Johnson, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Johnson, now 10-11, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 3, walking 4, and allowing 2 earned runs. Juan García was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 10 of 11 save opportunities.
It could have been a different outcome for Columbus, had it not been for Cole Tucker, the 26-year old first baseman . Tucker contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put Columbus up, 3-2.
In postgame comments to the Columbus Citizen, Tucker said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Legion raised their record to 65-88.
