Jose Fernandez was in top form in a low-scoring contest between Neptune and Columbus. The Fighting Penguins right-hander was named the player of the game in Neptune's 3-1 win. Fernandez picked up the win for Neptune, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 16-11. Xiao-xuan Liang, credited with the save, is now 41 for 48 in save opportunities.
The Fighting Penguins got a big at-bat from first baseman Casey Gillaspie. For the game, Gillaspie went 2 for 4 with a double. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 117th hit of the season gave Neptune a 2-1 lead.
