There was no spell, no black magic -- just good pitching.

Yordano Ventura of the Berkeley Batterologists blanked the Durham Bull Artists, 7-0, at Dodger Stadium today, and he did it the old-fashioned way. After finishing the 5-hit, complete-game shutout, he was all smiles.

"I threw a lot of my pitches for strikes in this game," Ventura said. "I mixed it up and tried keeping these guys off balance."

Ventura walked 2 and struck out 9 in the victory.

"He was throwing his breaking ball for strikes and we never capitalized on any of his mistakes," Bull Artists manager Kevin Feasel said later.

Checking out his stats for the season, Ventura has notched 6 wins and 6 losses in 21 starts, 4.50 ERA and struck out 103 batters in 124 innings.
