The Batavia Muckdogs picked up a win at Castel Sant'Angelo, knocking off the Atlantic City Illuminati, 5-1. On the mound for Batavia was left-hander Clayton Kershaw, who played a pivotal role in the win. Kershaw went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 0, and struck out 6. His record improves to 9-8. Batavia is 58-77 and Atlantic City, with the loss, 73-63.
The Muckdogs got a big at-bat from left fielder Blake Rutherford. For the game, Rutherford went 1-5 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the third, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 9th home run of the season gave Batavia a 3-0 lead.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Rutherford.
