Victory Pushes Fighting Penguins Record to 76-49
|
The Neptune Fighting Penguins picked up a win at The Igloo, knocking off the Berkeley Batterologists, 5-4. Starting pitcher Grant Holmes, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Reliever Chasen Shreve picked up the win. His record improves to 2-1. Jose Valdez took the loss. Neptune is now 76-49, 9½ games up in the Ellering League Animal Division.
The Fighting Penguins got a big at-bat from first baseman Casey Gillaspie. For the game, Gillaspie went 1-4 with a double. In the bottom of the eighth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 21st double of the season gave Neptune a 3-2 lead.
"This win gets us that much closer to where we want to be," Gillaspie said in postgame remarks.
